Simple Truth Vanilla, Zero Sugar Yogurt
This one was sent in by a client recently, David. He wondered if this was a good choice for weight loss and how this yogurt stacked up with the rest of what I have posted about.
Simple Truth Vanilla Zero Sugar Yogurt is a medium thick, dairy blend yogurt made by Kroger’s natural Simple Truth brand. It will pour, about like a ketchup might, or honey. So not as thick as some other yogurts.
True to its name, this yogurt contains zero added sugars or artificial sweeteners. It’s sweetened naturally using only stevia leaf extract and erythritol.
At 15g of protein per serving, with 70 calories per serving Simple Truth Vanilla Zero Sugar is a solid option for those prioritizing protein intake. Additionally it has 0g of sugar!

❌ For those trying to gain weight – At 70 calories per cup, this is a not the best option to pack on the calories. It can still be a great option to get your protein, but you’ll need to get those additional calories elsewhere.
A Potential Downside for Some
⚠️ Sugar Alcohol — Contains 5gr of Erythritol, a sugar alcohol.
What is Sugar Alcohol?
Sugar alcohols are a type of carbohydrate used as low-calorie sweeteners. Despite the name, they are neither sugar nor alcohol—just chemically similar to both.
Common sugar alcohols include:
- Xylitol
- Erythritol
- Sorbitol
- Maltitol
- Mannitol
They’re often found in sugar-free or reduced-sugar products like gum, candy, baked goods, and even toothpaste. Sugar alcohols have fewer calories than regular sugar and don’t raise blood sugar as quickly, making them popular for people managing diabetes or watching calorie intake.
However, in large amounts, they can cause digestive issues like bloating or gas since they’re only partially absorbed in the small intestine.
To clarify: sugar alcohols are not artificial sweeteners. They’re considered “nutritive sweeteners” because they provide some calories and are often naturally occurring in fruits and vegetables.
Bonus Benefit: Gut Health Support
Yogurt is more than just protein and low calories—it’s also a natural source of probiotics. These are beneficial bacteria that help support a healthy gut microbiome. A well-balanced gut can improve digestion, support immune function, and even influence mood and metabolism. While not all yogurts contain live and active cultures, Simple Truth’s formulation includes live probiotic strains that may contribute to better digestive health. Just one more reason to keep yogurt in the mix.
All in all, this is a decent product. If you’re looking for a high-protein yogurt that is sugar free, Simple Truth Zero Sugar Vanilla is a smart choice.
